Red blind stamped cloth with gilt crest and titles. A history of Norwich Castle which the author traces back to ancient British times and in which he proves that Norwich was the "Venta Icenorum" and not Caister. viii preface by the author's son; engraved vignette at start of text pp 41 +17 black and white plates showing ground plans, elevations, sketches of detail, associated crests and views of the castle and an appendix or 11 hand coloured maps showing Norwich through the ages as well as a map of Roman Norfolk and the Yarmouth Hutch map and a section. The contents have been subjected to a small worm penetration - colour plates at the end not affected. Laid onto endpapers, book plate of previous owner and picture of Norwich Castle. Contents are bright. Ends of spine worn.
